We’re really excited about Malcolm Guite’s fascinating new biography of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, which is shaped and structured around the story he himself tells in his most famous poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. This is an overdue re-evaluation of Coleridge which goes far beyond mere biography. Malcolm will be reading from his book, and discussing his perspective on Coleridge. About the book Though the Mariner was written in 1797 when Coleridge was only twenty-five, it was an astonishingly…

Phone

Will Self's latest novel unites our most urgent contemporary concerns, exploring the end of privacy and the horror of modern war, from that most ubiquitous of objects: the mobile phone. We're huge fans of the book - not only because of Self's inimitable style, but also because of his focus on the everyday instrument which governs twenty-first century lives. As such, we're absolutely delighted to welcome Will to the Golden Hare for what promises to be an unforgettable reading from his…

These Dividing Walls

We're looking forward to sharing this fantastic debut novel with you! Paris is a favourite haunt of both tourists and novels, and it's refreshing to come across a book which casts a new perspective on the city we think we know. Setting These Dividing Walls in a sweltering summer with tensions rising, Fran Cooper eschews the sentimentalisation of the French capital, creating a strikingly contemporaneous tale about grief, prejudice and nationality. Join us for a reading from the book and…
