OLIGARCHY: An Evening with Scarlett Thomas, in conversation with Heather Parry

November 28, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

The perfect bookish autumnal night awaits you as we launch Oligarchy, the new novel from Scarlett Thomas, author of The End of Mr Y and Seed Collectors.

Scarlett will be in conversation with Heather Parry about the themes of Oligarchy, her writing process and more. Don’t miss the chance to hear from one of Scotland’s most exciting fiction writers.

Don’t miss this very special evening by the Golden Hare wood-burning stove. There will be time for Q&A and signing, and books will be sold. Wine will be served free of charge!

When Tash, daughter of a Russian oligarch, is sent to an English boarding school, she is new to the strange rituals of the girls there. Theirs is a world of strict pecking orders, eating disorders and Instagram angst.

While she spends her time with the other girls at the lake and the stables, a hand-picked few are invited to join the Headmaster at his house for extra lessons. Then her friend Bianca mysteriously vanishes, and quickly the routines of her dorm-mates seem darker and more alien than ever before.

Oligarchy is the fierce new novel about power, privilege and peer pressure from the bestselling author of The End of Mr. Y.

“An intricate black jewel of a novel. Weeks later I’m still thinking about it”

Scarlett Thomas was born in London in 1972. Her novels include Bright Young ThingsPopCo, Our Tragic Universe and The Seed Collectors. She is Professor of Creative Writing & Contemporary Fiction at the University of Kent.
