YA Book Group: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

February 18, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Introducing a new book group celebrating the very best in young adult fiction…

We are very excited to finally announce a brand new book group from Golden Hare Books as part of our 2019 initiative to grow our range of book groups for the reading community of Edinburgh.

YA is one of the fastest growing and most successful categories in the book trade – and for good reason! Progressive politics, complex characters and thrilling stories of human connection and experience are worth celebrating in books. Now you can read some of the best contemporary young adult fiction and come along to a comfortable space where you can discuss it in depth with others – whilst enjoying refreshments. And best of all – it’s free to join!

How it works
Reserve a space online or in-store, read the book and turn up! This book group is run by Katalina, our resident YA expert.
Please let us know in plenty time if you can no longer attend so we can offer your place to someone else.
Please turn up on time so we can begin the discussion promptly.
Please read the book before coming!

For our first YA Book Group in February, we are reading the inspirational novel The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. Buy it from us and get 10% off!

About the book

Sixteen-year old Starr lives between two worlds: the poor neighbourhood where she was born and raised, and her posh high school in the suburbs. The uneasy balance between them is shattered when Starr is the only witness to the fatal shooting of her unarmed best friend, Khalil, by a police officer. Now what Starr says could destroy her community. It could also get her killed.

An essential read for everyone.
