Short Story Club: “The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding” by Agatha Christie

Again Poirot shivered. The thought of a fourteenth-century English manor house filled him with apprehension. He had suffered too often in the historic country houses of England. He looked round appreciatively at his comfortable modern flat with its radiators and the latest patent devices for excluding any kind of draught.

It’s festive Short Story Club! This time we’re transporting you to the quintessential English country Christmas, and Agatha Christie’s Poirot finds himself at the centre of yet another mystery. Published in 1922 and also known as “The Theft of the Royal Ruby”, Hercule Poirot must get to the bottom of a devilish plot featuring a dubious Christmas pudding!

Short Story Club is our low-commitment, high-reward reading group for those who love short stories and want to hear more of them, and for those who are curious about the shorter form of fiction. We gather around with a glass of wine, one of our booksellers introduces then reads the story in its entirety and then we open up to a group discussion. It’s a brilliant way to meet new people and hear new stories, and we like to think you’ll leave with a brighter view of the world around you. There is something magical about short stories.
