Join us for a festive evening of poetry, fireside treats and readings!
Candlestick Press is a favourite at Golden Hare – they publish the Poetry Instead of a Card series, and we’re delighted to launch not one but two new pamphlets for the festive season! Join us, Candlestick Press, editor Hamish Whyte and special guest readers for an evening of mulled wine, mince pies and poetry from Candlestick’s two new Christmas pamphlets: Ten Poems about Robins and Christmas Lights: Ten Poems for Dark Winter Nights.
Hamish Whyte (b. 1947) is a Scottish poet who runs Mariscat Press and has edited numerous anthologies of Scottish poetry, as well as the work of his friend Edwin Morgan. His own poems have appeared in various Scottish magazines and Shoestring Press has published his three full collections, of which the most recent is Things We Never Knew (2016). He is a member of Edinburgh’s Shore Poets.
Free admission – all welcome but please register as numbers are limited.
To register, please book through Golden Hare Books instore or on our website, or call Candlestick Press 0115 967 4455 / email email@example.com
Exposing our minds to new high quality literature is one of our favourite things at Golden Hare, and nothing does that in a more compelling way than our Readers’ Salon. This is an open evening where we encourage people to come along and share what is moving their souls, stimulating their brains or stirring their passions (in a literary sense, naturally!). All the choices on this list were contributed by our fantastic and supportive Readers’ Salon attendees. The large number of excellent recommendations from those who attended the salon really impressed us this week, so we’ve compiled a list from what was an absolutely heaving and fun-filled Readers’ Salon! We’d heartily recommend diving into any of our readers’ recommendations below.
All of us at Golden Hare Books would like to say a huge thank you to Ann MacKinnon and Stewart Sanderson, two very different but equally gifted and in many ways complementary poets who entertained a full house in the shop last night with a selection of readings from their newly published pamphlets. First of all, we would like to wish a very happy new year to all our customers; we hope you had a restful and restorative break with family and friends over the festive period. And how better to celebrate the new year than with the announcement of a brand new venture. Continue reading The Hare and the Cat
Join us for an evening of poetry and cake as we host the first ever Pass on a Poem group in Scotland. Read a favourite poem aloud or just come along to listen to a diverse collection. No previous experience of poetry or reading live required. Head over to www.passonapoem.com to find out more about the group and to have a look at their online anthology.
