History of Dundas Street

Although Dundas Street has been one of the main throughfares into the city since the building of the Northern New Town in the early 1900s, it has featured little in histories of the city. 

Yet, as this account relates, many significant events have taken place in Dundas Street and it has been home to numerous notable residents. A street's history is in large part the story of its residents and the book includes extended biographies of twenty - one from each of the decades from 1800 - 2000. Some are well-known - though their link to Dundas Street may not be - while others deserve to be celebrated. 

Brandon Street and Airlie Place are included as these form part of the road's striking aspect as it climbs the hill to Hanover Street with the Assembly Hall on the skyline.
