Be Brave, Maple Mehta-Cohen!

Maple Mehta-Cohen has a secret: she can't read very well. She's creative and imaginative and loves dictating stories into her recorder - especially the adventures of a daring sleuth who's half Indian and half Jewish like Maple herself - but words on the page just don't make sense. Despite all her clever tricks to hide her troubles with reading, her teacher is on to her, and now she has to repeat a whole year of school. Maple is devastated - what will her friends think? Will her new classmates judge her? On her first day back, Maple tells a lie about why she's there - a lie that threatens to unravel at any moment.
