This is a book about the original golden age of stereoscopy, the amazingly inventive and prolific first 30 years, from 1832-1862. For the majority of people, stereoscopy - or stereoscopic 3-D as we call it now - came about with James Cameron's film 'Avatar'. Some know of a couple of unforgettable 3-D films from the 1950s, but only a handful are aware that stereoscopy was invented in the first half of the 19th century, and, strange as it may seem, before what we now think of as regular, mono photography appeared. This is the story of this incredible invention which revolutionised the way people looked at the world around them, a world which they were seeing for the first time as it really was: in its true three dimensions.
